Royals Sweep Warriors in Pair of Run Rule Wins

Fullerton, CA - The No. 18 Hope International University softball team (25-7) swept a doubleheader against the Nelson University Arizona Warriors winning 12-2 and 9-0 in a pair of run rule games on Wednesday evening at home at Bastanchury Park in Fullerton, CA.

Game 1:
Kaitlyn Maaske (12-2) picked up her 12th win throwing 4 innings allowing two runs, one earned on four hits while striking out three. Natalie Corrales led the Royals offense going 2-for-3 with 4 RBIs.

Maaske put the Warriors down in order in the top of the first while the Royals jumped on top in the bottom of the first. Vivian Little got things going with an RBI single to put the Royals ahead 1-0. Later in the inning Samantha Villanueva drove in a run on a fielder's choice before Corrales ripped a two run single to center to give the Royals a 4-0 lead.

The Warriors would pull back a run in the top of the second to make it 4-1 but the Royals added to their lead in the bottom half. Emma McCraw delivered an RBI groundout to make it 5-1 before the Royals took advantage of an error to increase their lead to 6-1. Then with two down Corrales delivered a two out two run single to push the Royals lead to 8-1.

The Warriors would get another run in the top of the third to make it 8-2 but again the Royals answered with a three spot in the bottom half. With two on and nobody out Little ripped a two run double to make it 10-2. Later in the inning Asia Chacon delivered a sac fly to increase the Royals lead to 11-2. The Royals then added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth as Makenna Stuart came through with an RBI single to make it 12-2. Karlie Bilbrey then pitched the final inning allowing just one hit while striking out one as the Royals won 12-2 in five innings.

Game 2:
Alexis Galvan (7-5) picked up her seventh win pitching 3 shutout innings allowing just three hits while walking one. Bilbrey led the Royals offense going 2-for-2 with an RBI.

The Warriors tried to get going in the top of the first as they got three hits but Sarah Reisler and Little came up with two big plays to gun the Warriors down at home and keep them off the board. The Royals then jumped on top in the bottom of the first as they took advantage of two errors to take a 3-0 lead. Galvan then shutdown the Warriors putting them down in order in the second and third innings while the Royals broke open the game in the bottom of the third.

With two outs Breanna Lucero ripped an RBI single to left to make it 4-0. Bilbrey then followed with an RBI single off the pitcher to make it 5-0 before the Royals took advantage of an error and a wild pitch to make it 7-0. Reisler then came through with an RBI single to increase the Royals lead to 8-0. Grace Craig then came in from the bullpen to shut the Warriors down over the final two innings not allowing a hit. The Royals then added another run in the bottom of the fourth on an Asia Chacon sac fly as they won 9-0.

The Royals continue GSAC action on the road as they head to Arizona to take on Park-Gilbert with a doubleheader beginning on Friday, April 4 at 11:00 AM in Gilbert, AZ.
