Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Royals Keep Rolling in Win over No. 19 Oregon Tech

FULLERTON – Led by freshman Aman Haynes with a career-high tying 20 points, 23rd-ranked Hope International men's basketball earned an 80-63 victory against No. 19 Oregon Tech at the Royals Thanksgiving Classic on Tuesday at Darling Pavilion.

Haynes hit 7 of 8 shots and added a game-high tying nine rebounds with two steals. He is shooting 66.7 percent from the field, which ranks third in the Great Southwest Athletic Conference.

Four additional Royals scored in double figures, including Nick Hopkins (14), Darvelle Wyatt (12), Cade Potter (11) and Addy G'Bye (10).

Haynes sparked a 9-0 run in the second half that gave the Royals a 75-55 lead with 4:03 to play, scoring six of those points as he helped put the game out of reach.

HIU shot 19 free throws to Oregon Tech's four in the second half, finishing 15 of 23 from the foul line for the game.

Oregon Tech's Jackson Cooper, who scored a career-high 38 points in Monday's victory over The Master's, was held to just eight points. He was saddled with his second foul less than two minutes into the game and did not score his first points until the 17:42 mark of the second half.

The Fightin' Owls led 11-10 – their only lead of the game – on back-to-back three-pointers from Grant Tull and Sean Chris Tresvant. But the Royals responded with a 12-0 run, a Colin Weems triple giving the home team a 22-11 lead.

Haynes scored six of the next eight points to push the advantage to 30-16. HIU settled for a 43-32 lead at the break as Haynes scored before the halftime buzzer.

OIT reduced its deficit to as little as five points at 46-41 on Cooper's jumper at the 17:06 mark, but a 10-0 run stretched the HIU lead back to 15 with 14:37 to go.

The Royals are now 7-1 overall, the program's best start since the 2019-20 season. OIT, led by Jared Sucher's 21 points, fell to 5-3 on the season.

HIU's next game is on Tuesday, December 2 against Nobel, beginning at 7:30 p.m. from the Darling Pavilion.
