Royals Pepper Warriors In Scoreless Draw

IRVINE, Calif. – The Hope International men's soccer team held a 32-9 shots advantage, but could not score against Life Pacific in a scoreless tie on Saturday at the OC Great Park.

The Royals played their fifth tied game in moving to 3-3-5 on the season, and 2-2-2 in the GSAC. The Warriors picked up their first point in conference play, going to 0-8-1 overall and 0-4-1 in league action.

HIU controlled the possession and the majority of shot opportunities throughout the match. Matthias Alcaraz led all players with seven shots, followed by Vincent Lopez with five.

Lopez came close to putting the Royals on the scoreboard in the 21st minute as his shot hit the crossbar.

With four minutes remaining in the first half, Roberto Estrada's shot was deflected away. Alcaraz took the follow up and his effort glanced off the right post.

HIU was thoroughly in control in the first half with a 17-3 shots advantage.

The Royals kept the pressure going in the second half, taking 15 shots to Life Pacific's six. HIU also owned a 12-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Warriors almost grabbed the lead with five minutes to go as a well struck Dominic Tejeda shot was tipped over the crossbar by HIU goalie Berlin Torres.

Torres made two saves for the Royals, while Warrior counterpart Ozzy Morales stopped six shots.

The Royals head to Arizona next week to take on Embry-Riddle on Thursday. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
