SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Junior Maya Estrada-Garcia won her first career individual women's cross country race, completing the achievement on Friday at the Bushnell Invitational.
Estrada-Garcia ran the 6K course at the Pine Ridge Golf Club in 23 minutes, 12.11 seconds. She crossed the line 31 seconds ahead of runner-up Cadence Smith from host Bushnell.
Garcia, a transfer from Mt. SAC, has had a phenomenal first season for the Royals. She posted back-to-back sixth place finishes at the Firestorm Invitational and Highlander Invitational before breaking through with her medalist performance in Oregon.
Sophomore Lupe Mata posted her highest finish as a Royal, running the course in 24:46.49 for fifth place.
In addition, junior Jazmin Zambrano improved her career-best time by 15 seconds in finishing in 29:55.28 for 23rd place.
The Royals return to action on Friday, November 7 at the GSAC Championships, which will be held in Glendale, Ariz. at Sahuaro Ranch Park.
