Wadman Puts Up 25 to Lead Royals Past Buccaneers

Gilbert, AZ - The No. 22 Hope International University men's basketball team (19-3, 6-1 GSAC) bounced back from their first conference defeat with a commanding 70-46 win over the Park-Gilbert University Buccaneers on Thursday evening on the road in Gilbert, AZ

The Royals got off to a hot start as they opened on an 8-0 run led by five points by Aaron Wadman. The Buccaneers fought back to get within 13-10 with 14:23 to go. The Royals would push their lead back up to 17-10 with another layup by Wadman but again the Buccaneers stayed close as the made it 19-15 with 9:22 remaining. The Royals answered on a 7-0 run led by another four from Wadman and a big three by Grant Sii to push their advantage to 26-15 with five minutes to go. The Buccaneers would close the gap again as the Royals took a 28-20 lead into halftime. 

The teams traded buckets to start the half before a Jozelle Carter Jr basket launched the Royals on a 9-3 run to extend their advantage to 39-25 with 15:14 left. The Buccaneers fought to stay in the game as they made it 39-32 but the Royals had all the answers as they went on a 12-2 run led by another six from Wadman to seize control of the game with a 51-34 lead with 8:46 to go. The Buccaneers offense looked for a response but the Royals defense held strong while a layup by Josh Hardiman gave them their biggest lead at 66-41 with 2:45 left. Allen Wright then finished off the game with a basket as the Royals won 70-46. Wadman led the Royals with a career high 25 points. 

The Royals continue GSAC action in Arizona as they travel to Mesa, AZ to take on Benedictine Mesa on Saturday, February 1 at 1:00 PM.
