Coach Czech Joins 300 Career Win Club With Wire to Wire Win

Mesa, AZ - The No. 22 Hope International University men's basketball team (20-3, 7-1 GSAC) won their second game in a row as they led to wire to wire to take down the Benedictine University Mesa Red Hawks 73-66 for Head Coach Bill Czech's 300th career win on Saturday afternoon on the road in Mesa, AZ.

Wadman picked up where he left off on Thursday as he delivered the opening basket on the first play of the game as the Royals took an early 6-2 lead. It was tight game as the teams exchanged baskets with a basket by Nick Hopkins giving the Royals an 13-9 lead with 11:29 to go. The Redhawks made it 13-12 but the Royals answered on a 14-4 run led by five points from Grant Sii and finished off by a big three from Wadman to put them up 27-16 with 8:38 remaining. The Redhawks rallied to get within four but the Royals answered with a big three from Jonah Felix to spark a 9-3 run as they extended their lead to 36-26 with 2:52 left. The Redhawks again rallied to make it 38-35 but Hopkins answered with a layup to put the Royals up 40-35 at halftime.

The Royals came storming out of the break on a 7-0 run led by five point by Grant Sii to increase their lead to 47-35. The teams exchanged baskets before the Redhawks rallied to make it 51-47 with 13:58 remaining. Hopkins quickly found Sii for a big three to answer as the Royals went on to lead 64-57 midway through the half. That didn't slow down the Redhawks though as they made it 56-54 with 8:47 to go. Sii would answer with another three while Hopkins added a free throw to build the Royals lead to 60-54. The Royals number one scoring defense held the Redhawks offense at bay while Hopkins finished off a three point play to put the Royals up 73-64 with 1:46 to go as the Royals went on to win 73-66 and seal Coach Czech's 300th career win. Sii led the Royals with 18 points while Josh Hardiman led with 11 rebounds as the Royals outrebounded the Redhawks 32-20.

The Royals continue GSAC action at home as they host OUAZ on Thursday, February 6 at 7:30 PM in the Darling Pavilion.
