Seeley Nearly Perfect as Royals Dominate Mustangs 24-1

Fullerton, CA – The No. 16 Hope International University baseball team (25-9) won their 13th game in a row as they opened their GSAC series against The Master's University Mustangs with a commanding 24-1 win on Friday afternoon at Duane Winters Field in Fullerton, CA.

Trey Seeley (6-2) was nearly perfect as he pitched a one hitter over 6 1/3 innings while walking one and striking out 14. Amari Bartee led the Royals offense going 2-for-3 with 4 RBIs.

Seeley got things started by putting the Mustangs down in order including striking out the first two hitters while the Royals offense opened the scoring in the bottom of the first. With runners on second and third and one down Alec Arnone lashed a two run single into right field to put the Royals up 2-0. Dean Toigo then came to the plate and smashed his seventh homerun in six games to make it 4-0. They Royals then added to their lead in the bottom of the second as they loaded the bases with nobody out before a wild pitch brought Alex Moreno home to make it 5-0. Two batters later Derek Sims drove in another run on an infield single to increase the Royals lead to 6-0. Mario Tostasdo then delivered a sac fly to make it 7-0. Seeley continued to shutdown the Mustangs while the Royals continued to pour it on in the third. The Royals would load the bases again with nobody out. JJ Cruz then delivered a two run single to make it 9-0 before the Royals forced across another run on a double play to increase their lead to 10-0.

Seeley continued to shine in the top of the fourth as he worked around an error to strikeout the side and keep the Mustangs hitless. The Royals offense meanwhile continued to score as David Rivera blasted his seventh home run of the year to make it 12-0. After Seeley put the Mustangs down in order in the top of the fifth the Royals put up a crooked number in the bottom half. Cruz would lead things off with a double and then score on a passed ball to make it 13-0. The Royals would then load the bases again and push across another run on a bases loaded walk to Ryan Maciel to make it 14-0. Bartee would then unload a grand slam to center field to increase the Royals lead to 18-0. Coach Mahoney would then turn to his bench as Wilson Dunn walked before Joey Legg his second home run of the season over the right field wall to put the Royals up 20-0.

Seeley continued to roll on the mound striking out the side in the top of the sixth but the Mustangs eventually broke the no hitter as they got a hit with one out in the top of the seventh. Luke Wallin then came in in relief and worked around a two out double to get a groundout and end the threat. Owen Dunn then pitched a scorelees top of the eighth as he worked around a two out error to retire the side. The Royals offense wasn't done either as Ryan Lamastra hit a leadoff home run that stayed just far down the right field line to make it 21-0. Jacoby Savoy and Branden Chun-Ming would then hit back to back doubles to make it 22-0 before Brandon Reyes launched his first home run of the year and the Royals season best sixth home run of the game to increase the lead to 24-0.

Raul Herrada then came in from the bullpen to finish off the shutout in the top of the ninth but the Mustangs had other ideas as they hit a two out homerun to break up the shutout and make it 24-1. Herrada would then come right back to strikeout the final batter as the Royals came away with a big win.

The Royals continue their GSAC series against The Master's with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 6 beginning at 11:00 AM at Duane Winters Field in Fullerton, CA.
