Carter Jr and Sii Combine For 44 as Royals Take Down Warriors 79-75

Rocklin, CA - The Hope International University men's basketball team (17-7, 6-4 GSAC) won their second game in a row on the road and third overall as they took down the Jessup University Warriors 79-75 on Thursday evening in Rocklin, CA.

It was a back and forth game as the Warriors got out to an early 5-0 advantage before the Royals came right back on a 9-0 run led by four points from Grant Sii to take a 9-5 lead five minutes into the game. The Warriors came back to take a 12-11 lead but the Royals answered immediately with a jumper by Ausage Siamu to spark a 9-2 run as they went up 20-14 midway through the half. The Warriors fought back to get within 25-24 but the Royals answered to make it 27-24. The Warriors kept coming though as they retook a 30-27 with 5:03 remaining. The Royals regrouped after a timeout as Sii drained a three to tie it and start a 12-1 run led by seven points from Jozelle Carter Jr as the Royals took a 39-31 lead with 1:14 to go. The Warriors answered with two free throws as they pulled within 39-33 at halftime.

A tip in by Tristan Williams put the Royals up 41-33 to start the half but the Warriors answered to get within 41-39. Sii provided an instant answer as he hit a three and then scored a layup to increase the Royals lead back to 46-39. The Warriors kept coming as they took a 49-48 lead but the Royals answered as the teams swapped the lead multiple times until the Royals went on a 9-0 run led by seven points from Gaven Ramirez as they took a 64-56 advantage with 5:14 to go. The Warriors didn't give up as they got within 68-66 with 3:06 to go. The Royals quickly called timeout and regrouped as Carter Jr nailed a three to make it 71-66 with 2:40 to go. The Warriors played the foul game the rest of the way as they got within 71-70 but Ramirez came up with a huge steal while Carter Jr went 8-for-8 from the free throw line to seal a 79-75 win.
   
The Royals continue GSAC action in Northern California as they travel to Atherton, CA to take on Menlo on Saturday, February 10 at 2:00 PM.
