Williams Leads With 17 as Royals Take Down Spirit 74-63

Surprise, AZ - The Hope International University men's basketball team (20-8, 9-5 GSAC) won their final game of the GSAC regular season as they upset the OUAZ Spirit 74-63 on the road in Surprise, AZ.

It was a battle early on with the teams exchanging leads before the Royals seized control with a 7-2 run finished off by a jumper from Jalen Shores to put them up 14-8 with 11:39 to go. The teams continued to battle as the Spirit cameback to make it 21-19 but the Royals answered with a Grant Sii three to increase their lead to 24-19 with 6:28 remaining. The Spirit answered again to make it 26-23 but the Royals went off on a 10-3 run led by six points from Jozelle Carter Jr as they extended their lead to 36-26 with 1:48 to go. The Spirit finished strong though as they scored the final four points as the Royals led 36-30 at the break.

The Royals came storming out of the halftime break on a 7-1 run led by five points from Tristan Williams as they took a 43-31 lead within the first three minutes of the half. The Spirit weren't going to go down easily as they answered on an 11-0 run to make it 43-42 with 12:28 to go. The Royals quickly answered with five points from Williams as they went back up 48-42. The Spirit wouldn't go away as they made it 48-46 but the Royals would not relinquish the lead as they answered on an 8-2 run with three points each from Williams and Jonah Felix to take a 56-48 lead with 9:02 to go. Once again the Spirit rallied to get within 58-55 with six minutes left but the Royals quickly responded as Gaven Ramirez found Ausage Siamu to spark a 9-1 run as the Royals went up 67-56 with 1:45 to go. The Royals then finished the game off from the line as they came away with a huge 74-63 road win. Williams led the Royals with 17 points.
 
With the win the Royals clinch the third seed in the GSAC Tournament and will take on the sixth seeded Menlo College Oaks on Thursday, February 29 at home in the Darling Pavilion.
