Royals Fall to Top Ranked Mustangs

Santa Clarita, CA – The Hope International men's volleyball team (4-7, 0-2 GSAC) fell 3-0 on the road to the No. 1 The Master's University Mustangs on Friday evening in Santa Clarita, CA.

The Royals gave the top ranked Mustangs an early scare as they took a 10-6 lead off a kill by Brian Castro and a service ace from Julian Zavala. The Mustangs answered on a 7-3 run to take a 14-13 lead. The Royals would battle back to take a 16-15 lead but the Mustangs would go back up 21-19. Once again the Royals rallied as a kill from Coby Prowse tied it before taking a 22-21 lead but the Mustangs had all the answers as they won 26-24 and took a 1-0 lead. The Royals got off to a quick start in the second set as they started on a 4-1 run before going on to lead 7-3 with kills from Prowse and Kyler Tufuga. The Mustangs would comeback to take a 12-11 lead but the Royals kept battling and went back up 17-16. The Mustangs would go back up 20-17 but the Royals answered to tie it 20-20 on a kill by Prowse but the Mustangs closed the set on a 5-0 run to win 25-20 and take a 2-0 lead. The Royals fought to stay alive in the third set but the Mustangs got out to an early 7-4 advantage as they tied it 11-11 on a kill by Prowse. The Mustangs had all the answers as they took a 17-13 advantage. It was Prowse again who came up with a big kill to make it 22-19 but that's as close as the Royals got as they fell 25-20 and 3-0. Prowse led with 10 kills while Segio Garcia had 21 assists. 

The Royals continue GSAC play on the road as they head to Costa Mesa, CA to take on No. 3 Vanguard on Saturday, March 2 at 7:00 PM.
