Arnone's Record Tying Day at the Plate Leads Royals Past Mustangs

Santa Clarita, CA – The No. 11 Hope International University baseball team (9-6, 3-1 GSAC) won their third game in a row as they opened their GSAC series against The Master's on the road with a commanding 16-3 win on Friday afternoon in Santa Clarita, CA.

Trey Seeley got the start and pitched 4 1/3 shutout innings allowing just one hit while walking four and striking out six. Aaron Orozco (1-0) picked up his first win in relief pitching 2/3 no hit innings while striking out one. Alec Arnone led the Royals offense going 3-for-4 with three home runs and 7 RBIs to tie the single game Royals record for home runs and RBIs.

The Royals opened the scoring in the top of the first as they got back to back singles with one down to start a rally. Arnone then stepped to the plate and launched a three run bomb over the right field wall to put the Royals up 3-0. Seeley then shutdown the Mustangs working around a single in the first and a walk in the second to keep it 3-0. The Royals then added to their lead in the top of third as Arnone crushed his second home run of the game, a two run shot to increase the Royals lead to 5-0. Seeley then put the Mustangs down in order in the bottom of the third while the Royals struck again in the top of the fourth. This time it was Alex Moreno who delivered an RBI single to center to make it 6-0. The Mustangs tried to fight back in the bottom of the fourth with runners on first and second and one down but Seeley came up big with a strikeout and a groundout to end the threat after the bases were loaded.

The Mustangs tried to start a rally in the bottom of the fifth as they chased Seeley but Orozco came in from the bullpen to get the final two batters and maintain the Royals 6-0 lead. The Royals then struck again in the top of the sixth as Ryan Lamastra made it 7-0 on a sac fly before Arnone unleashed his third home run of the game to increase the Royals lead to 8-0. Justin Drury then came in from the bullpen to shut the Mustangs down in the sixth and the seventh while Royals broke the game open in the top of the seventh. Seth Nelson got things started with a one out RBI double to left center to make it 9-0. After a hit batter Moreno ripped another RBI single to left to make it 10-0. Two batters later Lamastra unloaded a two run double to left to make it 12-0. Arnone then followed with a sac fly before Ryan Maciel drove in another run on an RBI single to increase the Royals lead to 14-0.
