Royals Fall to Thunderbirds 8-2

Fullerton, CA – The No. 11 Hope International University baseball team (6-5) fell once again to the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds this time by the score of 8-2 of Tuesday evening at Duane Winters Field in Fullerton, CA.

David Rudd-Grow (0-1) took the loss pitching 4 innings allowing three runs on five hits while walking three and striking out six. Ryan Maciel led the Royals offense going 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs.

The Thunderbirds got to the Royals early as they took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Rudd-Grow then limited the damage by striking out the final Thunderbirds batter. The Royals quickly tied it in the bottom of the second as Ryan Maciel crushed his first home run of the season over the right field wall to make it 2-2. Rudd-Grow put the Thunderbirds down in order in the second but once again the Royals weren't able to muster any offense in the bottom half as the game remained tied 2-2.

The Thunderbirds once again took the lead back in the top of the third on a home run as they went up 3-2. The Royals tried to fight back but were unsuccessful as they went down in order for three straight innings. The Thunderbirds then made it 4-2 in the sixth then added two more in the seventh and one more in the eighth to take a 7-2 lead. The Royals continued to battle as Cruz tried to start a two out rally with a double but they were unable to capitalize as they trailed 7-2. The Thunderbirds then added another in the ninth to go up 8-2. The Royals were unable to get anything going in the ninth as they fell 8-2.                                                      

The Royals continue action at home as they open up GSAC play against OUAZ on Friday, February 16 at 2:00 PM at Duane Winters Field in Fullerton, CA.
