Ramirez Leads With 24 As Royals Snap Three Game Slide in OT Win

Fullerton, CA - The Hope International University men's basketball team (15-7, 4-4 GSAC) snapped a three game losing streak as they took down the Life Pacific University Warriors 95-81 in overtime on Thursday evening at home in the Darling Pavilion.

Gaven Ramirez got things started off with a three as the teams exchanged the lead multiple times during the first five minutes of the half. The Royals then went on a 9-0 run finished off by a three from Jonah Felix to take an 18-10 lead with 13:04 to go. The Warriors would answer to pull within 20-17 but the Royals got four points from Calen Murray to put them up 24-17 midway through the quarter. Once again the Warriors rallied to get within 27-25 but the Royals had all the answers as they used a 6-0 run finished off by a layup from Tristan Williams to take a 33-25 lead with 5:12 to go. The Warriors would comeback to make it 35-32 but the Royals closed the quarter with two free throws from Grant Sii and a big layup off a steal by Felix at the buzzer to put the Royals up 39-32 at halftime.

The Warriors pulled back with 41-39 to start the half but the Royals got an instant answer from Jozelle Carter Jr who hit a jumper and completed the three point play to start a 10-2 run as the Royals raced out to a 51-41 lead with 15:58 remaining. The Warriors didn't give up as they came storming back to tie the game 57-57 before going on to take a 59-58 lead with 9:05 to go. The Royals had a quick response as Sii hit a pair of free throws to start a 6-0 run as the Royals went up 64-59 with 7:43 to go. Once again the Warriors came back to tie 70-70 with 4:20 to go. The Royals then extended their lead back to 76-71 but the Warriors came back to tie it 78-78 at the buzzer and force overtime.

The Royals quickly retook an 81-78 lead on a big three by Ramirez to start overtime. The Royals defense then clamped down and held the Warriors without a basket from the field as they went on to lead 85-81 with 1:43 to go. Ramirez then scored back to back buckets to make it 89-81 with 33 seconds left as the Royals ended overtime on a 10-0 run to win 95-81. Ramirez led the way with 24 points.
   
The Royals continue GSAC action on the road as they travel to Newport Beach, CA to take on No. 10 Vanguard on Saturday, February 3 at 6:00 PM at Corona del Mar High School.
