Hardiman Leads With Double Double in Rout of Lion Angels

Fullerton, CA - The Hope International University men's basketball team (9-2) won their fourth game in a row as they took down the Bethesda University Lion Angels 82-54 on Wednesday evening at home in the Darling Pavilion.

The Royals grinded out to an early 13-8 advantage led by six points from Josh Hardiman with 14:40 to go. The Lions Angels kept it close at 17-12 but the Royals quickly went on a 6-0 run finished off by a Hardiman layup to extend their lead to 23-12 with 9:00 to go. The Lion Angels battled back to get within 25-19 with five minutes to go. The Royals would respond with an emphatic 18-1 run to close the half including a buzzer beater jumper by Hardiman to take a commanding 43-20 lead at the half. The Royals were helped by shooting an impressive 63% from the field.

The Royals continued to build on their lead to start the second as they opened on a 14-3 run led by five points each from Sebastian Castro and Miles Ceballos to extend their lead to 57-23 with 13:17 remaining. The Lion Angels looked for an answer as they made it 61-29 but the Royals answered with five points from CJ Fisher to take a 66-29 lead midway through the half. The Royals then turned to their bench as a layup by Allen Wright with 7:39 to go gave the Royals their largest lead of 74-36. The Lion Angels would get within 80-54 before a layup by Braxton Williams gave them an 82-54 win. Key players for Hope included Nick Hopkins and Josh Hardiman, who led the scoring with 16 points each, with Hardiman also racking up a commendable double-double featuring 12 rebounds and five assists.

The Royals continue action at home as they host Thompson Rivers University on Thursday, December 16 at 5:30 PM in the Darling Pavilion.
