Four Players in Double Figures As Royals Dominate Wolfpack 81-61

Fullerton, CA - The Hope International University men's basketball team (10-2) won their fifth game in a row as they used a big first half to take down the Thompson Rivers University Wolfpack 81-61 on Monday evening at home in the Darling Pavilion.

The Royals came out strong as they scored on their first five possessions to take a 10-5 advantage led by six points from Aaron Wadman with 17:03 to go. The Wolfpack kept it close though as they battled back to tie it 10-10. The Royals would go on to take a 20-15 lead with 11:43 to go but the Wolfpack used a 6-0 run to take a 21-20 lead with 9:16 remaining. The Wolfpack would then extend their lead to 27-23 but the Royals came storming back as Jonah Felix nailed back to back threes to start an 18-2 run as the Royals took a 41-29 lead with 2:45 left. The Wolfpack responded to make it 43-33 but the Royals finished strong with a pair of free throws from Nick Hopkins and Sebastian Castro to take a 47-33 lead at halftime. The Royals shot 53% from the field in the first and were helped by 28 points off the bench. 

The Royals got off to a quick start in the second half as they got back to back baskets from CJ Fisher and Josh Hardiman to extend their lead to 51-33. The Royals would go on to lead 55-38 but then they went cold from the field while the Wolfpack went on a run to close within 58-47 with 10:56 left. The Royals responded well as they forced several turnovers to launch an 8-0 run highlighted by a dunk from Fisher to extend their lead to 66-47 with 8:17 left. The Wolfpack were able to hang around down 71-54 before the Royals answered on another 8-0 run led by four points from Hardiman to extend their lead to 79-54 with 2:59 to go. The Royals then turned to their bench as they went on to win 81-61. The Royals were led by 13 points from Hardiman and 13 points from Felix off the bench and dominated the boards out-rebounding the Wolfpack 35-19. Hardiman was also huge for the Royals defensively picking up 10 rebounds and two blocks.

The Royals continue action at home as they host Bethesda on Wednesday, December 18 at 5:30 PM in the Darling Pavilion.
