Hardiman Double Double Leads Royals to 67-47 Win Over Golden Eagles

Fullerton, CA - The Hope International University men's basketball team (8-2) won their third game in a row as they took down the La Sierra University Golden Eagles 67-47 in a wire to wire win at home on Tuesday evening in the Darling Pavilion.

The Royals came racing out of the gates on an 11-0 run led by four points from Grant Sii as they took an early lead. The Golden Eagles took advantage of some poor free throw shooting from the Royals as they pulled within 12-7 with 13:01 to go. The Royals defense would then step up to limit the Golden Eagles while a basket by Josh Hardiman extended the Royals lead back to 22-12 with 8:55 remaining. The Golden Eagles kept coming as they but the Royals lead to 24-19 with under five to go. Aaron Wadman would quickly answer with a basket to start a 9-3 run as the Royals took a 33-22 lead with 1:34 left. The Golden Eagles then nailed a three but quick hands by Sii led to four more points for the Royals as they took a 37-25 halftime lead. The Royals outscored the Golden Eagles 13-3 off points off turnovers. 

The Royals started out the second half strong as they opened on a 9-2 run led by five points from Wadman as they extended their lead to 46-27 with 16:34 left. The Golden Eagles answered to make it 46-30 but the Royals kept rolling as they went on an 8-2 run with four points from Nick Hopkins to extend their lead to 54-32 with 11:08 left. The Golden Eagles wound answer with another three but again the Royals had all the answer as they went on a 9-2 run finished off by a three from Sebastian Castro to extend their advantage to 63-37 with 5:11 left. The Royals then emptied their bench allowing the Golden Eagles to get closer but a bucket by Raul Rodriguez III made it 67-44 as the Royals went on to win 67-47. Hardiman led the Royals with a double double (15 points and 13 rebounds) while Wadman added 14.

The Royals continue action at home as they host Bethesda on Wednesday, December 4 at 6:00 PM in the Darling Pavilion.
