Royals Complete Second Half Comeback to Top Warriors 73-63

Eugene, OR - The Hope International University men's basketball team (6-2) bounced back from their loss yesterday as they came from behind to defeat the Corban University Warriors 73-63 on Saturday afternoon in the Dave Lipp Classic on the road in Eugene, OR.

The teams exchanged leads early on with Josh Hardiman putting the Royals up 8-7 with 16:51 to go. The Warriors answered to retake a 12-8 lead but the Royals came back to tie it 15-15 off a big three from Sebastian Castro and then 17-17 on a layup by Hardiman with 12:57 left. The Warriors then crawled out to a 25-19 lead with 10:42 to go. The Royals tried to keep it close but the Warriors would go on to extend their lead to 33-21 with 6:14 remaining. The Royals defense then stepped up while a Jonah Felix layup sparked an 11-2 run as the Royals pulled within 35-32 with :55 seconds to go. The Warriors would then make it 37-32 before Nick Hopkins dished off to Felix who nailed a three at the buzzer to pull the Royals within 37-35 at halftime.

The Royals continued their momentum into the second half as they started on a 12-2 run with five points each from Hopkins and CJ Fisher to retake the lead at 47-39 with 16:34 to go. The Warriors answered with a quick bucket but the Royals continued to score as they went on a 10-0 run with four points each from Hopkins and Hardiman to push their lead to 57-42 with 11:00 to go. The Warriors didn't go down easily as they rallied to get within 61-54 with 5:42 remaining. The Royals weren't done either as they went on a 10-2 run led by seven points from Aaron Wadman as they increased their lead to 70-56 with 3:21 left. The Warriors would whittle the Royals lead down to eight with :26 seconds left but Sii would ice the game with a pair of free throws as the Royals won 73-63. The Royals shot 56% from the field and were led by Hopkins with 17 points.

The Royals continue action at home as they host Nobel on Monday, November 25 at 5:00 PM in the Darling Pavilion.
