Hopkins Leads With 32 in Royals 93-79 Win over Lion Angels

Fullerton, CA - The Hope International University men's basketball team (4-1) won their second game in a row as they took down the Bethesda University Lion Angels 91-79 on Saturday afternoon at home in the Darling Pavilion.

It was the Lion Angels who came out strong as they used hot shooting to take an early 15-4 lead just four minutes into the game. The Royals would cut their deficit to 18-9 with a dunk by Josh Hardiman but once again the Lion Angels continued to score as they led 23-12 with 13:06 to go. The Royals then answered on a 10-2 run led by four points each from Hardiman and Nick Hopkins to close within 25-22 with 11:23 remaining. The Lions Angels continued to nail threes as they extended their lead back to 34-28 with 7:39 left. The Royals then came storming back on an 11-0 run led by six points from Castro to take their first lead of the game at 39-34 with 5:02 to go. This time the Lion Angels came back to get within 43-42 but Grant Sii answered with a huge three as the Royals went on to take a 47-42 halftime lead.

The Lion Angels battled their way back to within one at 48-47 to start the half but the Royals quickly answered with a three point play from Hopkins to start an 11-3 run as they extended their lead to 59-50 with 15:42 to go. The teams then traded baskets with a layup by Grant Sii giving the Royals a 63-52 lead their largest of the game and forcing a timeout by the Lion Angels. The Lions Angels would rally to get within 74-66 with 8:41 to go but the Royals answered with a 12-2 run led by five points from Hopkins to take a commanding 86-68 lead with 3:33 left. The Royals then stretched their lead to 21 off a bucket by CJ Fisher but the Lion Angels did the end half with a run as the Royals won 93-79. Hopkins led the Royals with 32 points while Castro added 18 off the bench.

The Royals continue action at home as they host Stanton on Tuesday, November 19 at 6:00 PM in the Darling Pavilion.
