The Royals Fall to the Eagles in Prescott

Prescott, AZ – The Hope International men's soccer team (7-3-2, 4-2-2 GSAC) fought hard but fell to the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Eagles on Saturday evening in Prescott, Arizona, at the Varsity Field Stadium. 

The Royals began strong with multiple opportunities to score against the Eagles early in the game. The Royals earned a corner kick, taken by Brandon Galindo, in the 2nd minute but were not able to score. The Royal's continued offensive pressure led to an aggressive shot attempt in the 11th minute taken by Andy Cabrera that was saved by the Eagles goalie. Despite the Royal's early offensive efforts, it was the Eagles who opened the game with a goal in the 18th minute bringing the score to 0-1. The Royals continued to push forward maintaining offensive pressure. In the 29th minute the Eagles tested the Royals goalie with a shot that was saved by Berlin Torres. The Royal's recorded multiple attempts to score in the first half, but none resulted in goals. The Royals ended the first half down 0-1 against the Eagles.

In the second half, the Royals aggressively pushed for a goal. Quickly, following a corner kick taken by Gio Marin in the 48th minute, Vincent Lopez had the first shot attempt of the second half and missed high. The Eagles responded with their own shot attempt in the 60th minute but missed wide. In the 70th minute the Royals closest shot was attempted by player Lex Leathem who barely missed the goal and hit the crossbar. The Royals final attempts included a shot by Vincent Lopez in the 82nd minute, a shot by Matthias Alcatraz in the 87th minute, and a final shot by Torres in the 90th minute; However, none resulted in goals. The Royals finished the game down 0-1 against the Eagles. The Royals Goalie Berlin Torres played all 90 minutes and recorded 4 saves while Braulio Morales, who also played the entirety of the game, led with 4 shot attempts.

The Royals continue GSAC play on the road as they travel to Surprise, AZ to take on the Ottawa University Arizona Spirit on Wednesday, October 16th at 7:00 PM.
