Jarrett and Talley With Double Doubles As Royals Rally to Defeat Warriors

San Dimas, CA - The Hope International University women's basketball team (9-3, 1-1 GSAC) picked up their first GSAC win of the season as they came from behind to take down the Life Pacific University Warriors 70-61 on Saturday evening on the road in San Dimas, CA.

It was the Warriors who got out to a quick start as they jumped out to an 11-4 advantage with 6:06 remaining. The Royals quickly regrouped as Madeline Salud nailed a three to start a 10-0 run as the Royals stormed back to take a 14-11 lead midway through the quarter. The teams then exchanged leads before the Warriors took an 18-16 lead at the end of the first. The Royals battled back in the second to take a 22-21 lead on a layup by Shailissa Jarrett with 7:04 to go. The Warriors responded to go up 27-22 but the Royals answered again on an 8-0 run led by four points from Amira Austin to take a 30-27 lead with 1:57 to go. The Warriors had the final say as they closed on an 8-0 run as the Royals trailed 35-30 at halftime.

The Royals looked to come back in the third as Shiane Talley hit an opening layup but the Warriors had other ideas as they increased their lead to 46-40 with 6:03 remaining. The Royals didn't give in as Talley quickly hit another shot to spark a 12-2 run with Jarrett nailing a three to put the Royals up 52-48 with 1:18 to go. The Royals then took a 55-50 lead at the end of the third off a Casey Fust three. The Royals continued their momentum in the fourth as they started on a 10-0 run led by four points from Jarrett to take a 65-50 lead with 5:31 to go. The Warriors didn't go down without a fight as they went on an 11-0 run to pull within 65-61 but the Royals weren't about to fold as an Aliyah Gonzalez layup made it 67-61 as the Royals prevailed 70-61. Jarrett led the Royals with a double double (23 points, 15 rebounds). Talley also recorded a double double (15 points, 10 rebounds).

The Royals return home for more GSAC action as they host Menlo on Thursday, January 11 at 5:30 PM in the Darling Pavilion.
