Fullerton, CA – The No. 11 Hope International University baseball team (2-0) swept their opening day doubleheader with the Westcliff University Warriors winning the first game 20-5 and the second 13-6 on Friday at Duane Winters Field in Fullerton, CA.

Tyler Tilton (1-0) picked up the win in relief pitching 3 ? innings allowing one run on two hits while walking one and striking out six. JJ Cruz led the Royals at the plate going 2-for-3 with four RBIs and one home run.

McWilliams pitched three scoreless innings until he ran into trouble in the top of the fourth walking back to back batters with one out. Tilton then came in from the bullpen and hit the first batter to load the bases before coming back to strike out the next two to keep the game scoreless. The Royals then struck for a big bottom of the fourth to take the lead. After being held hitless Dean Toigo delivered a clean single to get things started. Two batters later Cruz ripped a double down the left field lane to make it 1-0. After a walk Branden Chun-Ming followed with a booming triple off the right field wall to increase the lead to 3-0. Alejandro Torres then reached on a dropped third strike allowing another run to score and make it 4-0. Jacob Savoy then rolled an infield single past the pitcher to make it 5-0 and then would come around to score on a passed ball as the Royals went up 6-0.

The Warriors would pull a run back in the top of the sixth to make it 6-1 but the Royals put together another big inning in the bottom half. Chun-Ming led off with a double before scoring on a wild pitch to make it 7-1. Then later with one on and two down Rivera crushed his first home run of the season to make it 9-1. The Royals would then take advantage of another dropped third strike to prolong the inning as JJ Cruz smashed a three run home run to increase the lead to 12-1. Seth Nelson then followed with a pinch hit solo shot over the right field wall to make it 13-1 at the end of the seventh. Then two batters later Derek Sims unloaded his first career Royals home run, a two run shot to make it 16-1. The Royals weren't done as they added to their lead on the eighth plating their seventeenth run on a wild pitch. Two batters later Bartee laid down a beautiful sac bunt allowing Cruz to race home and make it 2-0. Tostado would then score on a wild pitch before Nelson drove in another run to increase the Royals lead to 4-0. This time the Warriors would find an answer immediately as they put up three runs in the top of the third to pull within 4-3.

The Warriors got a run back in the sixth to make it 9-4 before once again the Royals answered with a two out RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to make it 10-4.

The Warriors didn't give in as they loaded the bases with nobody out and pushed across a run to make it 10-5. Steven Ordorica would then come in and retire the side allowing just one more run as the Royals led 10-6 going to the bottom of the eighth. The Royals offense wasn't done scoring either as they loaded the bases before Cruz delivered a sac fly and then Tostado drove in two more with a two out RBI single to make it 13-6. Ordorica would then close out the win by retiring the Warriors in order including striking out the last two batters.
