Shooting Woes Continue As Royals Fall to Spirit 65-50

Fullerton, CA - The Hope International University men's basketball team's (14-6, 3-3 GSAC) shooting woes continued as they fell 65-50 to the OUAZ Spirit on Thursday evening at home in the Darling Pavilion.

The Royals struggled shooting early on as the Spirit started on a 10-2 run before going on to take an 18-5 lead with 11:32 remaining. The Royals called a timeout to regroup and came out on a 6-0 started by a layup from Gaven Ramirez as they closed within 18-11 with 9:46 to go. The Spirit answered to extend their lead to 24-11 with 5:20 to go. Later with the Spirit leading 27-17, the Royals went on another 6-0 run with Grant Sii making it 27-23 with :54 seconds to go. The Spirit though would answer while the Royals were unable to add another bucket at the buzzer as they went into halftime trailing 29-23. 

The teams traded baskets to start the half as the Royals pulled back within 34-27 on a layup by Grant Sii with 17:48 remaining. The Spirit had all the answers as they extended their lead to 50-31 with 11:21 to go. The Royals didn't give in as a layup by Jonah Felix cut the deficit to 56-42 with 9:27 to go. The Spirit had all the answers as they extended their advantage to 65-48 with 4:21 remaining. Despite coming up with several turnovers on defense the Royals were unable to convert on offense as they fell 65-50. 

The Royals continue GSAC play at home as they host Arizona Christian on Saturday, January 27 at 2:00 PM in the Darling Pavilion in Fullerton, CA.
