Williams Leads With 25 as Royals Upset GSAC Leading Warriors 98-93 in OT

Fullerton, CA - The Hope International University men's basketball team (13-4, 3-1 GSAC) came from behind to hand the Jessup University Warriors their first GSAC loss with a 98-93 overtime upset victory on Saturday afternoon at home in the Darling Pavilion.

The teams exchanged the lead to start the game before the Royals went on a 7-0 run started by a layup from Ausage Siamu to put them up 16-10 with 12:57 left in the half. The Warriors though came right back to take the lead 17-16 midway through the half. The Royals got right back to work generating turnovers as they went on a 6-0 run with four points from Grant Sii to put them up 22-17 with 7:53 to go. The Warriors didn't let the Royals get away though as they kept it close but the Royals had an answer every time as Cameron Dashiell came up with two big three-pointers to increase the Royals lead to 36-30 with 2:22 left. The Warriors kept coming though as they finished the half on a 6-2 run as the Royals took a 38-36 lead at halftime. 

The Warriors seized the momentum in the second half as they opened on a 9-3 run to take a 45-41 lead just two minutes in. The Warriors would increase their advantage to 54-47 before the Royals answered with two huge three-pointers from Tristan Williams to go on an 8-2 run as they pulled within 56-55 with 11:51 remaining. The Warriors answered well as they extended their lead to 71-59 with 7:37 to go. The Royals didn't give up as a jumper by Siamu pulled them within 76-73 but the Warriors would quickly extend the lead back out to 82-73 with 3:17 to go. The Royals never gave up as Jalen Shores hit a crucial jumper to start a 7-0 run as the Royals pulled within 82-80 with 1:02 left. The Warriors would go back up 84-80 but Gaven Ramirez hit four free throws in the remaining minute to tie the game 84-84 and force overtime.

The Warriors would take the early lead in overtime as they went up 88-84 with 3:41 to go. The Royals quickly called timeout before Shores then nailed a big three to make it 88-87 before knocking in a free throw few minutes later to tie the game 88-88 with 3:10 to go. The Royals defense then stepped up before Williams sunk two free throws to give the Royals a 90-88 lead. The defense then held strong while Siamu and Ramirez hit back-to-back shots to make it 94-88. Williams then finished off the game for the Royals at the line as they came away with a huge 98-93 overtime win. Williams led the Royals with 25 points.
 
The Royals continue action at home as they host SAGU American Indian on Tuesday, January 16 at 4:00 PM in the Darling Pavilion.
