Garcia Nearly Perfect As Royals Sweep Oaks

Fullerton, CA – The Hope International University baseball team (27-7, 16-5 GSAC) swept a doubleheader against the Menlo College Oaks as they pulled off a nailbitter 2-1 win in the first game before winning the second 18-0 on Saturday afternoon at Duane Winters Field in Fullerton, CA.

Steven Ordorica (5-1) picked up the win in relief pitching two hitless innings while striking out two. Unlike yesterday's game this one was a pitcher's duel as both pitchers were on point. The Oaks had a good chance to score in the third on a one out double but a great throw from Rivera nailed the runner at the plate to keep the game scoreless. The Royals then broke through against the Oaks in the bottom of the third as David Rivera launched a two out solo home run over the left field wall to put the Royals on top 1-0.

The game would stay that way until the seventh as Pinal put the Oaks down in order in three straight innings including striking out the side in the top of the fifth. The Oaks though would finally got on the board with a two out RBI in the top of the seventh to make it 1-1.

Ordorica then came in from the bullpen to shutdown the Oaks while the Royals looked for the go ahead run and found it in the bottom of the eighth. After a leadoff walk and a wild pitch Jung-Goldberg delivered a clutch RBI single down the right field line to give the Royals a 2-1 lead. Ordorica then shutdown the Oaks in the top of the ninth.

Game 2:
Hector Garcia (3-0) was nearly perfect as he pitched 6 2/3 innings allowing just one hit while striking out 15. Max Jung-Goldberg led the Royals offense going 3-for-5 with 7 RBIs including two home runs.

After being held to just two runs in the first game the Royals offense came to life right away. Jake Lachemann led off the game with his first hit of the year and was quickly driven in as Max Jung-Goldberg ripped an RBI double to center to make it 1-0. Two batters latter JJ Cruz crushed a three run bomb to increase the Royals lead to 4-0. Then with two outs Chase Hanson launched a solo home run to make it 5-0. The Royals then added to their lead in the bottom of the second as Jake Lachemann crushed his first home run of the year, a two run shot to make it 7-0. Then with two outs Ty Andrews blasted his first home run, also a two run dinger as the Royals took a 9-0 lead.

Garcia meanwhile continued to dazzle striking out 7 of the first 9 batters he faced as he held the Oaks off the board. The Royals offense continued to click as Andrews delivered a clutch two out RBI single to center in the fourth to make it 10-0. Then they struck for another big inning in the fifth. With two on and two outs Jung-Goldberg crushed a three run bomb to the deepest part of the park to make it 13-0. After an error allowed a base runner Cruz ripped an RBI triple down the right field line to make it 14-0. The Royals then tacked on more runs in the sixth as Jeremiah Craig delivered his first career RBI a sac fly to increase the lead to 15-0. Then Jung-Goldberg unloaded a three run shot to right field to make it 18-0.

Garcia was nearly perfect but the Oaks got their first hit of the game in the bottom of the seventh down to their final strike. Overall Garcia struck out 15 of the 21 batters he faced. Bailey Roberson then came in from the bullpen and struck out the final batter as the Royals won 18-0.
