Royals Fall in NAIA First Round To Tigers

Fayette, MO – The Hope International University women's basketball team (24-8) fell 85-56 in the first round of the NAIA tournament on Tuesday afternoon in Fayette, MO

The Tigers got off to a fast start as they took an early 6-2 lead but the Royals came right back to tie it 8-8 on a three by Shiane Talley. The Tigers answered as they went on a 6-0 run to take a 14-8 but once again the Royals responded this time with a 7-0 run led by five points from Jeanette Fine as they took a 15-14 lead. The Tigers though hit two free throws to retake a 16-15 lead at the end of the first. The Royals came out fired up to start the second as they started on a 10-2 run with Ana Resendiz and Talley each scoring five to put the Royals up 25-18. The Royals went on to lead 29-22 midway through the quarter on a free throw by Shailissa Jarret. The Tigers kept coming though as they closed the quarter on a 13-2 run to take a 35-31 lead at halftime.

The Royals looked to get back in the game to start the third but it was all Tigers as they opened the quarter on a 16-2 run to take a 51-33 lead midway through the quarter. The Royals continued to fight but couldn't put up a run as the Tigers took a 65-41 lead at the end of the third. The Royals looked to get back in the game in the fourth as Fine started with four points but the Tigers held strong as they went on to win 85-56. Talley and Fine led the Royals with 15 points each.
