Prowse With 25 Kills but Royals Fall in Five Sets to Pioneers

Angwin, CA – The Hope International men's volleyball team (3-16) fell 3-2 to the Pacific Union Pioneers on Monday evening in Angwin, CA..

The first set was back and forth early on as a kill by Brian Castro put the Royals up 12-11. The Pioneers answered well as they went on a 7-1 run to take an 18-13 advantage as they went on to take the first set 25-17 and a 1-0 lead. The Royals didn't give up as they started the second set on a 10-4 run led by two kills from Coby Prowse. The Pioneers fought back to get within 11-9 but the Royals remained strong going a 3-0 run to take a 14-9 lead as they never trailed going on to take the set 25-19 and tying the game 1-1.

The Pioneers took back control to start the third set as they took a 15-11 lead. The Royals quickly went on a 4-0 run led by a Prowse kill to tie it 15-15. It was a battle from there as the teams exchanged leads with the Royals trailing 24-23. Prowse quickly answered with a kill to tie it and start a 3-0 run finished off by a Jalani Horn kill as the Royals took the set 26-24 and a 2-1 lead. The Pioneers seized control in the fourth set as they went up 10-5 but the Royals fought back to get within 10-9 on an ace by Zach Nicoletti. That was as close as they got as the Pioneers took the set 25-19 and forced a fifth set.

The Royals started off the fifth set well as a kill by Prowse put them up 4-1 but the Pioneers answered on a 4-0 run to take a 5-4 lead. The Royals came back to tie it 6-6 on a kill by Castro but the Pioneers went on a 7-0 run to take a commanding 13-6 lead as the Royals fell 15-8 and 3-2. Prowse led the Royals with 25 kills.

The Royals wrap up regular season play as they continue their Northern California road trip taking on Simpson on Tuesday, March 28 at 1:30 PM in Redding, CA.
