Redding, CA – The Hope International men's volleyball team (3-17) wrapped up their season with a 3-1 loss to the Simpson University Redhawks on Tuesday afternoon in Redding, CA.
The Redhawks came out in the first set and quickly seized control as they went on a 5-1 run before going on to take a 17-10 lead. The Royals tried to put together a run but were overmatched as the Redhawks never trailed taking set one 25-17. The Royals looked to rebound in the second set as the teams exchanged leads with Simpson going up 15-12 but the Royals quickly answered with a 3-0 run to tie it 15-15 led by a kill from
Coby Prowse. The Redhawks would retake the lead but the Royals answered with a 4-0 run led by an
Andrew Delgado kill to take a 20-17 lead. The Royals would then hold on for a 25-23 win as they tied the game 1-1. The Redhawks quickly bounced back in the third set as they opened on an 8-0 run and went on to take a 16-9 lead. The Royals didn't give up as they went on a 4-0 run led by three kills from Prowse to pull within 16-13 but that's as close as they got as the Redhawks took the set 25-19 and a 2-1 lead. The Royals didn't go down easily as they took the early lead but the Redhawks came back to take a 7-6 lead. The Royals quickly answered on a 3-0 run led by a kill from
Jalani Horn to take a 9-7 lead as the teams went back and forth with the Royals taking a late 18-17 lead off a kill from
Jon Squilianti. The Redhawks wouldn't go away though as they went on a 6-0 run to take a 23-18 lead going on to close out the set 25-19 and the game 3-1. Prowse led the Royals with 18 kills.
