Royals Sweep Golden Eagles Win Streak Reaches 10

Riverside, CA – The Hope International University softball team (11-1) ran their win streak to ten games as they swept the La Sierra Golden Eagles in a doubleheader 6-0 and 2-1 on Tuesday afternoon in Riverside, CA

Game 1:
Olivia Candelas got the start and picked up the victory pitching 6 shutout innings while allowing just two hits and walking two and striking out three. Ariana Coronado led the Royals offense going 1-for-2 with 2 RBIs

Candelas bounced back from her outing yesterday as she was lights out shutting down the Golden Eagles meanwhile the Royals offense got on the board first in the first. With out out Emma McCraw blasted a home run to make it 1-0. Then Emily Puente and Makenna O'Toole hit back to back doubles to increase the lead to 2-0.

While Candelas continued to keep the Golden Eagles off the board the Royals would strike for another big inning in the third. The Royals took advantage of several errors before Jaylyn Hernandez drove in a run on a fielder's choice to make it 3-0. After a walk Coronado lined a triple into the right field corner to make it 5-0. Then Kassie Puente followed with a solid single to center to increase the lead to 6-0. Emily Puente would then come in and pitch the final inning allowing no hits as the Royals won 6-0.

Game 2:
Allie Puente (6-0) picked up the victory as she threw a complete game pitching seven innings allowing just one run on three hits while walking four and striking out 15. Makenna O'Toole and Hannah Macias led the Royals offense with each driving in a run.

It was a pitcher's duel early on as the game was scoreless until the third when the Royals finally broke through. With two on and one out O'Toole delivered a sac fly to right to make it 1-0. The game continued that way until the sixth when the Golden Eagles broke through against Puente with two outs to tie the game 1-1.

The Royals though didn't want extra innings as they looked to retake the lead in the top of the seventh. They quickly started the inning with back to back singles. Then after both runners were moved over on a wild pitch Macias stepped up and lined a single to center to put the Royals ahead 2-1. Allie Puente then shutdown the Golden Eagles in the bottom of the innings with the strike outs as the Royals won 2-1.

The Royals continue action on the road as they travel to Lancaster, CA on Wednesday, March 1 to take on the University of Antelope Valley with a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 PM.
