Horn Leads With 24 as Royals Tame Lions 79-68 on Senior Night

Fullerton, CA - The Hope International University men's basketball team (18-9, 11-7 GSAC) ended their season on a positive note as they took down Vanguard 79-68 on Saturday afternoon at home in the Darling Pavilion on senior night..

The Royals started the game off well as they pulled out to an early 14-4 lead finished off by a layup from Gaven Ramirez. The Lions weren't going to give up easy as they used the next five minutes to tie the game 21-21 with 8:05 remaining. The Royals quickly answered with a three from Caleb Christopher to retake the lead 24-21. The Lions came right back to take a 34-29 lead with 1:50 to go. The Royals then closed the half on a 5-2 run as they closed within 36-34 at halftime courtesy of two late free throws by Gaven Ramirez. 

It was a battle early on in the second half as the Royals retook the lead at 37-36 on a jumper by Jalani Horn but the Lions came back to take a 42-41 lead with 16:26 to go. The Royals then answered with free throw from Horn and a fast break dunk from Rasheet Wilson to take a 45-42 lead. It was all Royals from there as they took control with a 10-2 run to take a 55-44 lead with 10:32 to go. The Lions continued to fight as they got within 55-47 but that was as close as they got as the Royals answered with an 8-2 run finished off by a jumper from Ramirez to take a 63-49 advantage with 7:28 to go. The Royals built up there lead to as many as 18 on a layup by Wilson with 2:32 to go but a late charge from the Lions made it closer as the Royals won 79-68. Horn led the Royals with 24 points.

The Royals continue action at home as they host the GSAC tournament where they will begin play as the No. 3 seed taking on No. 6 Jessup on Thursday, February 23 at 7:15 PM in the Darling Pavilion.
