Royals Win Third in a Row in Dominating Fashion

Fullerton, CA - The Hope International University men's basketball team (6-3) won their third game in a row as they dominated the Bethesda University Lion Angels 89-36 on Tuesday evening at home in the Darling Pavilion.

It was a low scoring start to the half as the Royals went up 12-0 led by five points from Cameron Dashiell in the first eight minutes. Their defense did a good job keeping the Lion Angels off the board but they did make a run as they pulled within 16-8 midway through the first quarter. The Royals then answered on a 9-0 run led by five points from Jozelle Carter Jr to extend their lead to 25-8. The Lion Angels didn't give in a they pulled within 25-12 but the Royals finished on a 12-0 run with back to back layups from Carter Jr and Jalen Shores to take a commanding 37-12 lead at halftime. 

The Royals continued to dominate to start the second half as they opened on a 27-3 run led by seven points from Tristan Williams as they leaped out to a 64-14 advantage with 11:06 remaining. The Lion Angels would pull back within 66-22 but it was all Royals as they went on an 8-0 run finished off by free throws from Caleb Christopher to make 74-22. The Royals then emptied their bench as more players got involved in the scoring with Liwayne Richardson muscling to the basket for a three point play that he finished to give the Royals their biggest lead at 86-28. The Royals then finished off the game as they won 89-36. Carter Jr led the Royals with 20 points off the bench.

The Royals continue action at home as they kick off the HIU Tournament against Viterbo on Tuesday, December 19 at 5:00 PM in the Darling Pavilion.
