26 From Talley Not Enough as Royals Fall to Raiders

Ashland, OR - The Hope International University women's basketball team (2-1) dropped their first game of the year as they fell 77-55 to the Southern Oregon University Raiders to open up a two game tournament in Ashland on Thursday night.

The first quarter was a battle as the Royals took a 9-5 advantage midway through the quarter led by six points from Shiane Talley. The Raiders though closed the quarter on a 4-0 run to tie it 9-9 at the end of the first. The Raiders continued their momentum into the second half as they started on a 13-2 run to take a 22-11 lead midway through the quarter. The Royals would get back within 24-17 as Talley delivered a layup and one but the Raiders would close out the quarter on a 6-0 run to take a commanding 30-17 advantage at halftime.

The Royals started the third quarter strong as they started on a 10-3 run finished off by a big three from talley to make it 33-27 with 8:04 remaining. The Raiders had all the answers though as they took a 44-31 lead but Shailissa Jarrett then scored a layup to pull the Royals back within 10 at 44-34. The Raiders would then close the quarter on a 12-2 run to go up 56-36 at the break. The Royals once again came out strong to start the fourth on an 11-0 run led by seven points from Talley to make it 56-47 with 7:05 to go. That's as close as the Royals got as the Raiders closed out the game to win 77-55. Talley led the Royals with 26 points.

The Royals continue play at the SOU Tournament as they take on Oregon Tech on Friday, November 10 at 4:30 PM in Ashland, OR
