Williams Buzzer Beater Powers Royals to Win Over Warriors

Caldwell, ID - The Hope International University men's basketball team (4-3) bounced back from yesterday's loss as they took down the Lewis-Clark State Warriors 74-71 on a last second buzzer beater on Saturday afternoon at The College of Idaho in Caldwell, ID.

The Royals got off to a strong start as they raced out to a 17-10 advantage led by 7 points from Gaven Ramirez with 12:44 to go. The Warriors fought back as they outscored the Royals 14-4 to take a 24-21 lead with 8:50 remaining. The Royals would quickly answer with a layup by Calen Murray and a big three from Gavin Ramirez putting them back ahead 26-24. The teams would then exchange leads before a layup by Tristan Williams sparked a 9-0 run with Williams putting up seven points to put the Royals ahead 36-28 with 2:52 to go. The Royals continued to push from there as they upped their lead to 45-32 on a layup by Murray with :49 seconds left. The Warriors would then answer with a bucket as the Royals took a 45-34 halftime lead.

The teams exchanged baskets to start the half as a layup by Ausage Siamu put the Royals up 57-44 with 12:57 remaining. Things were looking good for the Royals as Caleb Christopher nailed a three to make it 60-49 midway through the second half. The Warriors though wouldn't go away as they went on a 13-3 run to pull within 63-62 with 4:32 to go. The Warriors would then retake the lead 67-65 with 2:55 remaining. Baskets by Ramirez and Paul Villela both put the Royals back ahead 68-67 and 71-70 before the Warriors tied it up 71-71 with :24 seconds to go. The Royals then ran one final play as Vilela passed it to Williams who nailed a three at the buzzer to give the Royals a big 74-71 victory. Ramirez led the Royals with a career high 32 points.

The Royals return to action at home as they host Stanton on Saturday, December 2 at 1:00 PM in the Darling Pavilion.
