Fullerton, CA - The Hope International University women's basketball team (4-2) won their second game in a row as they took down the University of Saint Katherine Firebirds 77-58 on Tuesday afternoon at home in the Darling Pavilion

It was a battle early on in the first as the Royals struggled to pull away with the game tied 11-11 midway through the first. After the Firebirds went up 12-11 the Royals answered with a 9-0 run with three three pointers in a row from Madeline Salud, Aliyah Gonzalez and Shiane Talley to take a 20-12 lead. The Firebirds wouldn't go down easily though as they pulled within 23-17 at the break. The Firebirds then got within 25-22 to start the second but once again the Royals pulled away with a big three from Gonzalez putting them up 31-22 midway through the quarter. Once again the Firebirds came back as the Royals went into halftime up 33-27.

The Royals came storming out of the halftime break as they opened on a 10-2 run finished off by a three from Shailissa Jarrett to take a 43-29 lead with 5:54 remaining. The Firebirds would get back within a dozen twice but the Royals had all the answers as Madeline Salud nailed a three at the buzzer to put the Royals up 55-37 at the end of the third. The Royals started the fourth on an 8-3 run as they extended their lead to 63-40. The Firebirds though answered well with a 16-5 run to pull back within a dozen at 68-56 midway through the fourth. The Royals weren't about to let off the gas though as they closed on a 9-2 run led by five points from Keira McNamee as they emerged with a 77-58 victory.
