Talley's Double Double Leads Royals to Comeback Victory over Warriors

Fullerton, CA - The Hope International University women's basketball team (3-2) ended a two game slide as they slipped past the Westcliff University Warriors 59-56 on Thursday evening in the Darling Pavilion in their first home game of the season.

The Warriors jumped all over the Royals to start the game as they raced out to an 18-4 advantage with three minutes left in the first quarter. Anyah Shamburger put an end to the Warriors run with a big three sparking the Royals on an 11-2 run as they got within 20-15. The Warriors would get the final basket of the quarter as they took a 22-15 lead at the break. The Royals continued their momentum into the second quarter as they opened on a 12-2 run to take their first lead of the game at 27-24 on a three by Madeline Salud with 5:51 to go. From there it was back and forth as the Warriors regained the lead at 30-29 at halftime.

The Warriors would extend their lead back to 34-29 to start the third but the Royals quickly answered with a 5-0 run by Shiane Talley to tie the game 34-34. From there the team exchanged leads with a basket by Aliyah Gonzalez giving the Royals a lead but the Warriors got the final say in the quarter as they scored with nine seconds left to take a 44-43 at the end of the third. The Royals came out strong to start the fourth as they opened on a 10-0 run led by six points from Gonzalez as they took a 53-44 lead midway through the quarter. The Warriors came storming back as they went on a 12-4 run to get within 57-56 with :49 seconds to go. The Royals then came up with a big stop on defense followed by a layup from Keira McNamee to take a 59-56 lead as they held on for the win. Talley led the Royals with a double double (18 points, 12 rebounds).

The Royals next take on Cal State Northridge in an exhibition game on Saturday, November 18 at noon in Northridge, CA. They then return to action at home on Tuesday, November 21 at 12:00 PM in the Darling Pavilion.
