Royals Record Breaking Season Comes to an End

Mobile, AL – The Hope International men's soccer team (15-4-2) couldn't hold on as they fell 3-2 to the Louisiana Christian University Wildcats in the first round of the NAIA Tournament on Thursday evening at the University of Mobile in Mobile, AL.

The Royals controlled the play early in the half as they created several opportunities but couldn't finish as the score remained 0-0. Then later in the half Milton Herrera was called into action as he made a huge save off a free kick to keep the game scoreless. The Wildcats grew into the game as the half progressed and would find the opener in the 33rd minute to go up 1-0. The Royals kept attacking though and would find the equalizer four minutes from the break as Leo Perez whipped in a great ball that found the head of Colm Cohen to tie the game 1-1 at halftime.

The Royals pushed forward to start the second half and immediately found the go ahead goal as it was Perez again who whipped in a ball that deflected off a few players and then found Jesse Mancilla who blasted the ball home to put the Royals on top 2-1 in the 46th minute. The Royals then had several chances to go up two goals with Perez having a great chance but couldn't get past the keeper. Meanwhile the Wildcats kept coming and tied the game 2-2 in 69th minute and then would regain the lead at 3-2 in the 74th minute. The Royals would keep pushing for the tying goal but just couldn't find the finishing touch as they fell 3-2. Herrera played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded four saves.

With the loss the Royals record breaking season comes to an end. They won a program record 15 games and won the GSAC Tournament for the first time.
