Koffroth Leads With 22 Kills as Royals Upset Mustangs 3-1 on Senior Night

Fullerton, CA – The Hope International women's volleyball team (9-14, 4-8 GSAC) came from behind to defeat the Master's University Mustangs 3-1 at home on senior day on Saturday afternoon in the Darling Pavilion.

The Mustangs got off to a quick start as they raced out to a 10-4 lead. The Royals battled back to get within 12-8 but the Mustangs had all the answers as they went on to take set one 25-17 and a 1-0 lead. The Royals fought back as they started the second set on a 9-3 run led by two kills from Cassidy Koffroth. The Mustangs fought back to get within one before the Royals went on to take a 13-11 off a kill from Addie Mathias. The Mustangs would then battle back to take the lead and it was a battle from there with the teams exchanging leads. The Mustangs would then take a 24-22 lead but the Royals weren't about to lose as they went on 5-1 run to win 27-25 thanks to a kill from Jade Philps to make it 1-1.

The Royals continued their momentum into the third set as they took an early 13-6 advantage. The Mustangs would battle back to get within 14-10 but the Royals had all the answers as they used a 3-0 run led by two kills from Koffroth to expand their lead to 17-10. The Mustangs would get back within 20-14 but the Royals closed on a 5-1 run led by two kills from Kathryn Schwab to win 25-15 and take a 2-1 lead. The Royals got off to a strong start in the fourth set as they raced out to an 8-3 lead but the Mustangs came right back to retake the lead at 9-8. The Royals didn't let that stand long as they used a 4-0 run led by two kills from Macie Powell to take a 12-9 lead. The Mustangs would get back within 13-12 but the Royals had all the answers as they went on a 10-2 run finished off by a kill from Addie Mathias to take a 23-14 advantage. The Mustangs didn't give in either as they came back to make it 24-20 but Powell delivered the game winning kill as the Royals won 25-20 and pulled off the 3-1 upset on senior day. Koffroth led the Royals with 22 kills.
 
The Royals continue GSAC action on the road as they travel to Arizona to take on Arizona Christian on Friday, October 26 at 6:00 PM.
