Royals Can't Get Past Hawks Fall 87-72

San Diego, CA - The Hope International University men's basketball team (11-5, 4-3 GSAC) continued GSAC play with an 87-72 loss to San Diego Christian College Hawks on Saturday afternoon in San Diego, CA.

It was a rough start for the Royals as the Hawks got out to an early 10-2 lead. Gaven Ramirez cut the lead to 10-4 but the Hawks came right back to extend their lead to 18-6 midway through the first. The Royals continued to battle as they fought to get within seven at 25-18 on a basket by Charles Neal with 4:13 left. That was as close as they would get though as the Hawks closed the half on a 15-2 run to take a commanding 40-20 lead at halftime.

The Royals started the second half off well with a basket by Neal but once again the Hawks took over as they built their lead to 62-35 with 13:50 remaining. The Royals didn't give up and cut their deficit to 66-45 on a layup by Tristan Williams midway through the second. The Royals continued to struggle shooting but they did pull back within 73-60 on a Jalani Horn layup with 3:08. The Hawks just proved to be to much though as the Royals eventually fell 87-72. Neal led the Royals with 20 points.

The Royals return to action on Thursday, January 12 as they travel a short distance to Costa Mesa, CA to take on Vanguard at 7:30 PM in the Orange Coast College gym.
