Royals Fall To Warriors in Tough Overtime Battle

Rocklin, CA - The Hope International University men's basketball team (13-6, 6-4 GSAC) fell 94-88 in a heartbreaking overtime loss to the William Jessup Warriors on the road Thursday evening in Rocklin, CA.

It was the Warriors who came out of the gate hot as they took an early 9-2 advantage. The Royals quickly answered with a 10-2 run finished off by a three from Charles Neal to take their first lead of the game at 12-11. The Warriors would retake the lead but the Royals once again stepped up with a 9-3 run led by six straight points from Gaven Ramirez to take a 21-17 lead midway through the first. The Warriors weren't deterred though as they went on a 12-2 run to retake the lead at 29-23 with 7:13 to go. The Royals slowly battled back to tie the game 33-33 on a three by Neal before going on to take the lead on a free throw by Tristan Williams as they closed out the quarter with a 47-41 halftime lead.

The Warriors came out on a 5-2 run to start the second half as they narrowed the Royals lead to 49-46. The Royals quickly answered with a three from Sebastian Castro to take a 52-46 lead as they continued to hold the Warriors at bay throughout the half. The Warriors would narrow the Royals lead to 67-65 but once again the Royals to extend their lead back out to 70-65 midway through the second. The Warriors continued to stick around and managed to tie the game 76-76 with 5:00 remaining before retaking the lead 78-76. It was tight from their as the Royals retook an 82-78 lead on a layup by Sebastian Castro but the Warriors to tie it 82-82 and force overtime as neither team could find a winner.

Overtime was another battle as the teams exchanged leads with the Royals eventually taking an 88-86 lead on a layup by Neal with 2:13 to go. The Royals were unable to hang on though as the Warriors closed out the game on a 8-0 run as the Royals fell 94-88 in overtime. 
 
The Royals continue action as they travel across the bay to Atherton, CA where they will take on Menlo on Saturday, January 21 at 2:00 PM.
