Rocklin, CA – The Hope International men's soccer team (6-1-2) opened up GSAC play with a 6-2 win over William Jessup on Thursday afternoon in Rocklin, CA.
The Royals started the game on the front foot and came close to scoring first but the Warriors goalie came up with two great saves to deny a goal. Then minutes later the Warriors would open the scoring in the 19th minute to take a 1-0 lead. The Royals would find an answer as
Denzel Barrientos played a great ball to
Cory Booth who finished for his second of the season to tie it at 1-1 in the 26th minute. The Royals would then take the lead in the 36th minute as
Miguel Flores scored off a rebound of a deflected free kick to make it 2-1. The Warriors though would get lucky with a late penalty as they tied the game 2-2 in the 39th minute as it was all level at halftime. Both teams came out on the attack to start the second half and it was the Royals who found the opening as Barrientos whipped in a great corner kick that
Marc Trejo headed in to put the Royals back on top 3-2 in the 52nd minute. The Royals would then add to their lead as
Dario Robles scored off a deflected corner kick to make it 4-2 in the 60th minute. Then moments later Barrientos played a great ball to Robles who finished again in the 61st minute to make it 5-2. Then just before the end
Anthony Acosta found
Diego Lopez for his first of the season in the 87th minute as the Royals went on to win 6-2.
The Royals continue GSAC play on the road as they travel to Atherton, CA to take on Menlo College at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 1.
