Fullerton, CA – The Hope International women's volleyball team (3-10, 2-3 GSAC) fell to the Westmont College Warriors 3-0 on Tuesday evening in the Darling Pavilion in Fullerton, CA
The Royals kept it close early on in the first set as they trailed 10-9. The Warriors then took control as they went on an 8-0 run to take a commanding 18-9 lead. The Royals answered with a 3-0 run led by two kills from
Savannah Salter to get within 18-12 but the Warriors rebuilt their lead to 22-13 as they went on to take the first set 25-16. The Royals started off the second set with an 8-6 led by two kills from
Carissa Wiles. Once again though the Warriors came to life as they went on another 8-0 run to take a 14-8 lead. The Royals continued to battle but Westmont had all the answers as the Royals fell 25-16 and went down 2-0. Knowing they needed a win to keep the game going the Royals came out energized for the third set as they used a pair of 4-0 runs to take an 11-3 lead early on led by three kills each from
Jade Philips and
Cassidy Koffroth. The Warriors wouldn't go away though as they managed to stay within six at 15-9. The Warriors would then use an 8-1 run to take a 17-16 lead. From there the set was back and forth as the teams continued to battle, but the Warriors would emerge victorious as they closed the game on a 4-1 run as the Royals fell 25-23 and 3-0. Philips led the Royals with 7 kills.
The Royals continue GSAC play at home on Friday, September 23 at 6:00 PM as they on Life Pacific in the Darling Pavilion.
