Rocklin, CA – The Hope International women's volleyball team (3-9, 2-2 GSAC) bounced back from yesterday's loss with a 3-1 victory over the William Jessup Warriors on Saturday afternoon in Rocklin, CA.
It was the Warriors who come out quickly in the first set as they built a 6-1 lead, but the Royals came right back to tie it at 10-10. Once again the Warriors reestablished their lead as they would hold an 18-15 advantage late in the set. The Royals didn't give up as they fought back to tie it again at 18-18, but the Warriors would respond again to take a 19-18 advantage. The Royals answered with a 6-0 run led by three straight kills from
Carissa Wiles as they took a 24-19 lead before going on to take the first set 25-20 and a 1-0 lead. The second set was back and forth with the teams exchanging leads multiple times as the game was tied 15-15. The Royals then went on a 3-0 run to take control of the game with an 18-15 lead. The Warriors answered to get within 18-16, but the Royals came right back on a 6-2 run led by two kills each from Wiles and
Savannah Salter to take a 24-18 advantage. The Warriors did battle back, but it was to little to late as Salter delivered the final kill to give the Royals a 25-21 win and a 2-0 lead. The Warriors didn't fold easily as they controlled the third set before going on a 7-0 run late to take set three 25-16 and narrow the Royals lead to 2-1. The fourth set was tight as the Royals looked to close out the game while the Warriors were fighting to continue it. The Royals took an early 12-10 lead, but the Warriors came right back to take an 18-15 advantage. The Royals then tied the game with a 3-0 run and then after the Warriors retook the lead they went on another 3-0 run to take a 21-19 lead. The Royals would then extend their lead to 23-20 before Salter delivered a crucial kill to put the Royals one point away from victory at 24-21. The Warriors didn't make it easy though as they got within 24-23, but the Royals had the final say as they forced an error to win the set 25-23 and the game 3-1. Wiles led the way with 13 kills while
Jacqueline Foster led the way with 17 assists.
The Royals continue GSAC play at home on Tuesday, September 20 at 6:00 PM as they on Westmont College in the Darling Pavilion.
