Atherton, CA – The Hope International women's volleyball team (2-9, 1-2 GSAC) opened their first GSAC road trip of the season with a 3-0 loss to Menlo College on Friday evening in Atherton, CA
The first set was a nailbitter early on as the Royals took an early 7-4 lead thanks to three kills from
Carissa Wiles, but the Oaks came right back to tie it 7-7. From there the teams exchanged leads before the Oaks went on a 7-0 run with the game tied 12-12 to take a commanding 19-12 advantage. The Royals tried to fight back but for every point they scored the Oaks had an answer as the Royals dropped set 1 25-15. It was a similar story in the second set as the Royals took an early 6-4 lead, but once again the Oaks went on a run as they took a 9-6 lead. This time the Royals battled back to take a 10-9 lead but the Oaks proved to be to much as they retook a 17-12 lead that they did not relinquish as the Royals fell 25-17. The Oaks used their momentum from the previous set as they jumped out to a big advantage going on to lead 24-12. The Royals put together one last run as they continued to fight but it was to little to late as they fell 25-17 and lost the match 3-0. Jade Phillips led the Royals with 8 kills.
The Royals continue GSAC play tomorrow Saturday, September 17 at 2:00 PM as they travel to Rocklin, CA to take on William Jessup
