Fullerton, CA – The Hope International women's volleyball team (2-8, 1-1 GSAC) finished this weekend with a 3-0 upset win against No. 24 Ottawa University (AZ) on Saturday afternoon at Darling Pavilion in Fullerton, CA.
The first set was dominated by the Royals, they went on a 4-0 run to begin the game and another 4-0 run giving the Royals an 11-4 lead. The Spirit fought back to get within 22-16, but the Royals did not let the Spirit get under their skin and ended the first set with a win (25-18) and a kill from 
Jade Philips. The Firestorm and the Royals started the second set going back and forth. The Royals then went on a 5-0 run with 
Rachael Street continuing to give the Spirit problems with her serves. Finally, Ottawa called a timeout to get their team back on track with Jessica Pearce ending the run for the Royals and starting another back-and-forth battle. The Royals pulled out a win (25-23) with a kill by 
Jade Philips. The Royals and the Spirit continued their momentum into the third set as they went back and forth, but the Royals rallied to take a 16-12 lead. The Spirit continued to never give up as a kill from Livia De Pra got Ottawa with one (19-18), but the Royals emerged victorious 25-21 as the Spirit fell 3-0. Wiles and Koffroth led the way with 11 kills each.
The Royals continue GSAC action next Friday, September 16 at 5:00 PM as they take on Menlo in Atherton, CA.
