Coach Blas joined the Royals’ staff in 2015 after spending 15 years at Cypress College as the Associate Softball Coach and 19 years as an administrator, coach, and educator at Saint Joseph High School.
Coach Blas teamed with Head Coach Brad Pickler as an associate coach for the last 15 years at one of the top two-year college softball programs in the country. With the help of Blas, Cypress College won four CCCAA State Championships (including three straight 2010 through 2012), 13 Orange Empire Conference Championships, and hosted a regional playoff each of those years. The Charger coaching staff was named the CCCAA Coaching Staff of the Year from 2010 to 2012. More than 51 student athletes moved on from the Cypress program to four-year programs in that time.
Along with his time as a coach at Cypress, Coach Blas concluded a distinguished career of teaching, coaching, and serving as an Athletic Administrator for Saint Joseph High School that began back in 1996. On the teaching front, he focused on Physical Education and Health Classes. He coached softball, basketball, and golf at different points in his tenure. As an Athletic Administrator, Blas coordinated11 sports and 22 teams, handled the athletic budget and fundraising efforts, and ran game management for the SJHS sporting events.
Educationally, Coach Blas earned a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice at California Lutheran University in 1989 and later earned a master's degree in Physical Education at Azusa Pacific University in 2002. Both schools were GSAC conference members at the time.
Coach Blas resides in Garden Grove, CA, with his wife Michelle and their children Derrick (14) and Lolani (11). The Blas family attends the Saint Irenaeus Catholic Church in Cypress, CA.
