IRVINE, Calif. – Josh Landry scattered eight hits to lead Hope International to a 3-0 shutout in the 2026 GSAC Baseball Championship First Round on Monday at the OC Great Park.
It was the third shutout this season and fifth in the career of the decorated senior, who was named the GSAC Pitcher of the Year on Sunday.Â
Anthony Setticasi and Ben Schnurman combined for six of the eight hits off Landry. The rest of the Redhawks lineup finished a combined 2-for-24 against the left-hander.
HIU scored single runs in the third, fourth and eighth innings to supply Landry with the necessary run support. Spencer Davis led off the third with his fourth home run of the season, landing just inside the right field foul pole.
Hunter Essang led off the fourth with a double. Colby Moran moved him over to third on a groundout, and Essang scored on Eddie Cotto's infield single for the 2-0 lead.
In the eighth, David Shackelford's opposite field base hit plated Davis, who led off the inning with a single.
Benedictine Mesa pitcher Cody Campbell had a strong outing, logging 8.0 innings and allowing seven hits while striking out nine.Â
But Landry, who improved to 10-3 on the season and lowered his ERA to 1.90, avoided trouble for a majority of his outing. He allowed a leadoff double to Setticasi in the first, but made an alert play on a sacrifice bunt attempt by Jack Moore, nailing Setticasi at third base.
He retired the side in the second, fifth and eighth innings. In the ninth, the Redhawks got their first runners into scoring position since the first inning, following a single by Moore and a double from Schurman. Landry got Oliver Davies to fly out to end the game, securing his 10th win which ties him with Justin Drury for fifth all-time on the HIU single-season list.
Davis finished 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored for the Royals, which improved to 35-13 overall.
The top-seeded Royals advance to Tuesday's semifinal game against No. 3 seed Arizona Christian at noon.
