DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Hope International Cheer teams traveled to Daytona Beach to compete for the first time in the NCA College Nationals. The Royals qualified in two divisions, All Girl Intermediate and All Girl Advanced this past summer at NCA Summer Camp. They made history with the Top title as well as a runner up title.
The All Girl Intermediate division had the Royals compete against seven other NAIA Programs. The Royals won Prelims with a score of 93.07, going into finals in the top spot. The Royals hit zero, once again to secure the National title with a score of 93.28. Texas Wesleyan took silver, Cumberland University took the bronze, followed by St. Xavier, Marian, Columbia, Friends and Montreat universities.
The All Girl Advanced team went against the back-to-back champions of Brenau University and was just .2 shy from the top prize with a score of 90.5. University of the Cumberlands took the bronze followed by Avila and Grand View.
The Royals also had a group stunt qualify consisting of Sophia Rosendale, Mackenzie Flowers, Ivy Martinez and Claire Zenisek. Out of over 60 video submissions, only the top 20 were invited to compete on the bandshell. The Royals were the only NAIA school represented in this elite competition, while the group from the University of Alabama took home the gold. Our athletes hit zero and earned the 19th spot.
The Royals were also awarded the prestigious Go Be Great Award. The five finalists were HIU, Carl State College, Gannon University, Idaho State and Lander University. The Royals were chosen as the winners based on their community service and servant leadership.
This ends the inaugural season for the HIU competitive Cheer teams.
