NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – Hope International endured a tough contest on Friday at CSUN, losing 5-0 to the NCAA Division I opponent.
The Matadors used their depth across all five flights to secure the victory.
CSUN won all five matches by straight sets. The Royals put up a strong fight at No. 1, where Bryce Swain and Sabrina Galassi took Hannah Heflin and Maleya Miles to a 21-17, 21-16 decision.Â
The Royals also hung tough at the No. 5 position, as Macy Thornburg and Phoebe Sebby lost by identical 21-14, 21-14 scores to Haley Coggins and Daysha Halbert.
Jill Rodig and Zaria Henderson clinched the match result for the Matadors as the No. 3 pair defeated HIU's Cozette Zimmermann and Manaia Mamea, 21-5, 21-13.
The Matadors completed the sweep, winning at No. 2 (21-8, 21-6) over Lole Mamea and Carmelina Infante and No. 4 (21-5, 21-11) over Rita Nua and Maci Hendry.
HIU (6-5) takes on two more NCAA Division I opponents next week, battling CSU Bakersfield and Pepperdine in Malibu on Friday, March 13 at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., respectively.
