Softball Drops Two at Embry-Riddle

PRESCOTT, Ariz. – Embry-Riddle pinned a pair of losses on the Hope International softball team on Saturday, earning 10-2 and 6-0 victories to forge a split of the four-game GSAC series.

The Royals managed just five hits over the two games, which included a one-hit shutout by Eagle pitcher Presley Daniel in the second contest.

ERAU's power featured five home runs, including four in game one.

Vivian Little and Amanda Esquivel each had two hits on the day for the Royals.

Game 1 – Embry-Riddle 10, Hope International 2 (6 innings)
The game started auspiciously for the Royals as Little led off with a home run.

But the Eagles took the lead for good in the second as Arianna Garcia laced a two-RBI double. ERAU tacked on another run for a 3-1 lead in the third, courtesy of a Kealey Myhre RBI double. ERAU took a 5-1 lead in the fifth on a Jade Bayless two-run home run.

Esquivel singled home Little to cut the deficit to 5-2 in the sixth, but a five-run bottom half from the ERAU offense ended the game by mercy rule.

The Eagles homered three times in the inning with Danica Quinn and Myhre, finished off by the second home run of the game by Bayless.

Kaitlin Maaske had a rough outing, giving up 15 hits and 10 runs for HIU. Claire Streeter tossed a complete game for ERAU, yielding four hits and two runs.

Game 2 – Embry-Riddle 6, Hope International 0
Esquivel had a leadoff single in the fourth for HIU's only hit of the game.

Daniel retired the final 10 Royals and allowed just a pair of walks – Jocelyn Aguilar in the third and Chey Navarro in the fourth – to complete her one-hit shutout.

Bayless notched her third home run of the afternoon, a solo shot to lead off the second.

ERAU scored five runs in the third on five hits off HIU starter Samantha Elizalde, which included a bases loaded hit by pitch to Anise Romo.

HIU returns home with an 18-14 record and 5-7 mark in the GSAC. ERAU is now 19-11 overall and 8-4 in conference play.
