Royal Offense Bombards Eagles

PRESCOTT, Ariz. – Hope International generated loads of offense in 11-6 and 13-4 victories in a GSAC softball doubleheader at Embry-Riddle on Friday.

The 24 runs represented the most HIU has scored in back-to-back games this season.

Vivian Little hit 6-for-9 with three runs scored and five RBI across the two games. Amanda Esquivel went 3-for-8 with four RBI and Chey Navarro batted 4-for-8 with three runs scored and two RBI.

Gabriela Holmes and Lily Hernandez also contributed three hits in the twin bill.

Game 1 – Hope International 11, Embry-Riddle 6
HIU took a 7-2 lead after two innings, the big blow a three-run homer from Little in the second. After Hernandez singled, Esquivel cranked out a two-run bomb to give the Royals a 7-0 cushion.

ERAU got three runs back in the bottom of the second courtesy of a Danica Quinn three-run home run.

Claire Streeter held the Royal bats quiet for the next three innings, but the visitors heated up again with a two-run sixth as Hernandez contributed a sacrifice fly as well as an RBI single from Esquivel.

HIU padded its lead scoring two more runs in the seventh.

ERAU scored a pair of runs in the fifth on a Kealey Myhre home run and added one more in the sixth following a Katie Jamieson RBI groundout.

Kaitlyn Maaske improved to 9-6 in the circle for the Royals, surrendering six runs and six hits over her seven innings.

Streeter took the loss, allowing 11 runs (nine earned) and 13 hits. She fell to 9-4.

Game 2 – Hope International 13, Embry-Riddle 4 (5 innings)
HIU wasted no time posting a 2-0 advantage in the first as Holmes laced a two-run base hit to score Esquivel and Emma McCraw.

The Eagles tied the score at 2-2 in the bottom half, taking advantage of three singles and two walks off HIU starter Karlie Bilbrey.

In the third, the Royals grabbed a 4-2 lead on back-to-back sacrifice flies from Little and Holmes. HIU increased its lead to 8-2 with a four-run fourth, as Jocelyn Aguilar offered a two-run double and Little an RBI single.

ERAU cut the deficit to 8-4 after executing a double steal and getting an RBI single from Leah Salas.

But the Royals ended the game via mercy rule following a five run fifth, as Hernandez's single plated Natalie Corrales for the 13-4 victory.

Bilbrey improved to 2-2 after pitching all 5.0 innings, yielding nine hits and four runs with three strikeouts. The Royals tattooed ERAU starter Presley Daniels for nine runs (eight earned) in 4.2 innings.

The two teams play another doubleheader on Saturday, beginning at noon.
