HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. – The Hope International beach volleyball team split its two matches on Friday in GSAC action, losing 5-0 to OUAZ and defeating Park Gilbert 4-1.
The Royals lost all five matches against the Spirit. The closest match came at No. 3, where Railey Dykstra and Shayna Martinez defeated Rita Nua and Cozette Zimmermann 21-11, 19-21, 15-9.
HIU won four of the five matches against the Buccaneers.Â
The two teams split the first two matches, with Katie Barclay and Macy Thornburg putting the Royals up 1-0 after downing Kyla Knight and Hayden Lick by 21-12, 21-13 scores. Park Gilbert won at No. 2 to tie the match at 1-1.
Manaia Mamea and Phoebe Sebby cruised to a 21-13, 21-7 win against Athena Hice and Marissa Morehouse at No. 5.
The Royals clinched the win at No. 1, as Sabrina Galassi and Bryce Swain were 21-10, 21-11 victors versus Reed Williams and Aliya Unseth.
The Royals return to action on Friday, March 27 as they host La Sierra and The Master's at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., respectively.
